"I think, therefore I am" is never directly stated as such in Rene Descartes' Discourse on Method. In his 2nd Meditations: "So after considering everything very thoroughly, I must finally conclude that this proposition, I am, I exist, is necessarily true whenever it is put forward by me or conceived in my mind." Neither "therefore" nor "I think" appear in the Meditations.
